Hipstr streaming platform launches with Dom Brown
Cow Lamp Films distribution launched today a new streaming platform called Hipstr.
Hipstr original, Wake & Bake with Dom Brown, will headline the launch with host Dom Brown
Wake and Bake with Dom Brown launches as the headline show for the new Chicago based film and TV app Hipster on November 12th.
Wake & Bake delves deep into weed’s societal and cultural impact with politicians, rappers, and activists.
Brown pierces the smoky veil of the cannabis world to explore how the perfect flower was able to gain an economic foothold in a country that still considers cannabis a Schedule 1 Drug.
“I’ve been pushing the boundaries of what is ‘acceptable’ for the last ten years on stage in front of thousands,” Brown said. “This is no different. I get to push people past what they know about cannabis and open up a brand new world to them, Porn & Chicken was fun but this is next level.
Dom definitely notices the particular challenges Illinois is facing with social equity.
“We have to hold our politicians and legislators accountable,” Brown said. “We have to see to it that they uphold the promises made to make Chicago the road map to true social equity. We have to put an end to the monopolization of the industry by major corporate juggernauts. Last but not least, we have to rally behind and uplift our SE applicants. Those who win their licenses need to become our go to dispensaries, grow ops etc.”
Guest stars include Anna Rose Li-Epstein, Social activist, True Social Equity in Cannabis; Rickey Hendon, former Illinois Senator; and Dr.Ameena Matthews, community activist and candidate for Illinois Congress.
Episodes feature politicians, activists, and rappers, including Vic Mensa, Grammy nominated rapper and activist, Dr. Ameena Matthews, Community Activist and Candidate for Illinois Congress, and Rickey Hendon, former Illinois Senator.
“If we look at cannabis as what it should be and what it has the potential to be, it needs to be seen as a form of reparations because the war on drugs has ravaged our communities,” said Mensa.
Brown is known for Chicago’s pride parade, his infamous Porn & Chicken parties that toured nationally, and as co-director of Activate:Chi, which produced one of the largest Chicago Black Lives Matter protests in 2020.
“It’s been nothing shy of an adventure,” said Brown. “I’ve smoked some of the best buds, experienced some of the most amazing activities and had some of the most groundbreaking conversations.”
