Review: Huckleberry, Marionberry, and Sour Cherry Gummies by Wyld
In 2019, in what seems like a lifetime ago, I purchased my first legal gummies during an annual writers’ conference in Portland. I remember being flabbergasted as an Illinoisan suddenly in a state where smoking weed was legal and blatant (I mean, on-the-streets in-front-of-cops blatant). I had no idea about cannabis brands or what to purchase from a dispensary half the size of a mobile trailer. It wasn’t until I recently picked up samples from nuEra Champaign I realized that the first edibles I’d purchased were from the brand Wyld.
I picked up the Huckleberry, Marionberry, and Sour Cherry Gummies, and as soon as I noticed the round squat plastic containers, I flashed right back to my time in Portland, where even though I knew I would not get in trouble while taking smoke breaks outside the convention center, I could not curb my paranoia for getting caught and wondered how long it would take to lose the paranoia while living in a legal cannabis state. The answer: I still have tinges of paranoia while smoking in public (it is technically illegal in Illinois). Thirty years of conditioning is difficult to break.

The Marionberry and Sour Cherry Gummies were labeled as indica, and the Huckleberry Gummies were labeled as hybrid. The 10 gummies in each of the three containers were infused with 10mg of THC per gummy.
The aroma of the Huckleberry Gummies delivered tart huckleberry and sweet berry medley with notes of citrus and sourness. The flavor matched with sweet berries balanced with a tart huckleberry and sugar. The ingredients included sugar, tapioca syrup, water, huckleberry juice concentrate, gelatin, natural flavoring, pectin (pectin, sodium citrate), coconut oil, citric acid, malic acid, cannabis extract oil, and sunflower lecithin.
The Marionberry aroma carried a heavy tart and earthy berry on the front end with a sweeter grape Kool-Aid on the back end. The flavor delivered more berry sweetness on the front end with a little tartness kicking in while chewing. The flavor contained a mix of dark berries, grapes, and sugar. The ingredients included sugar, tapioca syrup, water, marionberry juice concentrate, gelatin, natural flavoring, citric acid, pectin (pectin, sodium citrate), coconut oil, cannabis extract oil, and sunflower lecithin.
The Sour Cherry Gummies’ aroma was tart at first but then sweeter background notes reminded me of a cherry Laffy Taffy. The flavor definitely a tart cherry sensation on the front end that slowly tapered off as I chewed. The cherry flavor transitioned into a sweet fruit cocktail. Sour Cherry gummies had a little stronger in texture than the more gelatinous Huckleberry gummies. The ingredients included sugar, tapioca syrup, water, cherry juice concentrate, gelatin, malic acid, coconut oil, natural flavoring, citric acid, pectin (pectin, sodium citrate), cannabis extract, sunflower lecithin.
I don’t find much difference effects for indica, hybrid, and sativa labeled gummies. Most gummies and edibles give me energy during the first half to third of the buzz. These gummies, which I found consistent with 10mg dosing, were the similar but did add a stronger sedative effect at the end of the buzz that allowed me to easily transition into sleep.
