Lately, the bevy of 30%+ THC flower options available at Illinois dispensaries has disappeared. What was once five or more choices has been zero down here in the bottom of the state for quite some time. I’m taking a positive “take what you can get” approach though and still sorting by percentage and looking for heavy hitters when I stop in at Consume Marion. This was the latest winner, Lotus Kush from Ozone.
Lotus Kush is allegedly a repackage of Columbia Care’s Love Triangle #2, an indica heavy hybrid cross of Snow Lotus and Triangle Kush. This batch of flower tested at 26.875% THCA and 28.058% total cannabinoids. Ozone does not provide terpene testing information.
This eighth came as several just larger than popcorn style flowers. Deep forest green with several burnt orange hairs and a dense golden trichome frost, the buds are visually appealing.
In the hand though, these flowers were hard and over dried. There was a two-month window from harvest to package on this, and I have to wonder if that’s where they were overcured. At one point this was high quality cannabis, but it’s been hurt by the dry and cure.
The aroma still carried notes of sweet blueberries, heavy fresh cream, and fresh mint in the jar. When smoked the berry slides in before the mint tone but both fade quickly and take on the telltale flavor of hay. The dryness and overcure made the smoke harsh, and I ended up using it in my dry herb vaporizer more than smoking it.
Happily, the cure here didn’t harm the effects, and I found the classic indica traits I was expecting. The heavy tingling body buzz hits fast and carries through for hours. I got the best use out of Lotus Kush at the end of the day as a sleep inducing nightcap.
Overall this was a disappointment. Long lead times and an overcure left me with a harsh smoking flower that I had to work to salvage.
