Review: Orange Soda Pollen Pucks by Realeaf Botanicals
While dry-sieve hash is one of the oldest cannabis processing techniques, very few brands produce the product in Illinois. I recently spotted Realeaf Botanicals Orange Soda Pollen Pucks, which promised an old-school delivery method, so I picked up a gram to review.
Orange Soda is a sativa-leaning hybrid cross of Tangie and Grandma’s Cookies. The “Pollen Pucks” come as four quarter-gram pieces of compressed dry-sieve hash. These Pollen Pucks tested at 3.568% THC, 25.191% THCa, and 29.821% total cannabinoids. Terpenes accounted for 0.7% of the total weight.
Four khaki-colored hash “coins,” each less than one-eighth inch across, came stacked in a small dab jar. The hash was compressed enough that handling didn’t leave behind any residue but light pressure with a dab tool broke them into smaller pieces easily. Conveniently, the perfectly circular coins were a good fit for covering a bowl, dropping into a dab bucket, or sliding into a large joint.
The aroma from the jar was light with notes of pine sap, cut oak, freshly turned earth, and hints of sweet tangerine on the finish. The flavor came alive when the hash was smoked. A candy-like tangerine took the lead, while the richer flavors of oak and pine worked together to create a deeper, more complex finish. Sticky and heavy, the smoke coated my palate with that signature perfumey hash note for several minutes.
The Orange Soda Pollen Pucks delivered a sharp come-up, shifting my headspace toward an open, spacious, and playful place before I had finished the joint. Energized but distracted, the Orange Soda buzz was a better fit for socializing than deep work as it left me gregarious and talkative. A wave of muscle relaxation set in after the mental shift, softening the overall experience and helping to pace the return to baseline. Overall, the Orange Soda Pollen Pucks made a fun and flavorful addition to a joint or bowl.
