CRI Public Research Series hosts second guest speaker
The Cannabis Research Institute (CRI) hosted its second CRI Public Research Series today. The series is an initiative designed to make cannabis research transparent, accessible, and collaborative. Guest speaker Dr. Leslie Mendoza Temple, MD, ABOIM, spoke about her recently published JAMA Network Open consensus statement, “Developing Medical Cannabis Competencies,” which identified six evidence-based competencies to guide undergraduate medical education.
Temple, a coauthor of the framework, discussed the Delphi consensus process, summarize the six core competencies, and explained how these evidence-informed foundations can close existing knowledge gaps in health professions education. Temple also answered questions as part of a Q&A session.
The presentation explored:
– An overview of the recently published JAMA Network Open article, Developing Medical Cannabis Competencies, and its six evidence-based domains for medical education.
– Insights from Temple, a coauthor of the framework, on the development process and its implications for preparing future clinicians.
– A discussion of how educators and institutions can begin aligning existing curricula with emerging competency-based standards.
Temple is the Owen L. Coon Endowed Chair of Integrative Medicine, Medical Director of the Integrative Medicine Program at Endeavor Health, Clinical Professor of Family Medicine at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, and Chair of the Illinois Medical Cannabis Advisory Board.
