Hemp Cannabis Symposium set for Friday
The 5th Annual Hemp Cannabis Symposium, sponsored by the Southern Illinois University Cannabis Science Center, is set to start at 8 a.m. Sept. 27 at the Mclafferty Annex, home of the SIU Illinois Food, Entrepreneurship, Research and Manufacturing (iFERM) Hub of the Illinois Innovation Network. The Hemp Cannabis Symposium focus is “Cannabis Science: Advancing Academic and Industry Collaboration.” Presenters include Steven Philpott, Jr., Mike Pettersen, Mark Lange, Allison Justice, Anna Schawbe, Clay W. Moore, Lezli Engelking, Daniel Fowler, Mahmoud Elsohly, and Sandra Leal. The Hemp Cannabis Symposium will showcase the latest trends, research, and opportunities in the hemp and cannabis sectors, offering valuable networking and exposure to a diverse audience of professionals and enthusiasts alike.
The SIU Cannabis Science Center was established to form a collaborative network for cannabis research. Working groups across campus work together with a combined interest in cannabis. Groups include projects in the areas of Agricultural, Analytical, Biomedical, and Community.
The Hemp Cannabis Symposium coincides with the City of Carbondale’s 3rd Annual Hemp, Hops & Shrooms festival on September 28, 2024. That night will end with Carbondale’s “Off the Rails” Concert from 7-10 p.m., featuring jam-bluegrass band, and the ever-so-aptly named, Off the Rails, headlining the evening, and ska-reggae group UNCHAiNED opening.
