Highland Park approves recreation cannabis sales
The Highland Park City Council voted 4-3 to approve sales of recreational use marijuana at the Oct. 13, 2020 meeting.
Highland Park currently hosts a medical marijuana dispensary, Elevele Medical Cannabis Dispensary.
The approval also included measures that will not allow for a dispensary to be located within 1,500 feet (instead of the original 1,000 feet) of certain establishments, including schools or day care centers.
Council members Daniel Kaufman and Anthony and Mayor Nancy Rotering voted against the measure.
Council members Alyssa Knobel, Kim Stone, Adam Stolberg and Michelle Holleman voted in favor of the measure.
Highland Park City Council is expected to vote next on a potential retail tax of up to 3% on the sale of the drug.
