It’s been some time since we reviewed John Grow #3’s homegrown medicine, but he’s back with a new harvest: 24K Gold (a.k.a. 24k) by DNA Genetics. John Grow #3 has been a registered Illinois Medical Patient since December 19, 2019 and has been growing his own medicine of and on for twenty years.

24K Gold is a 60% Indica/40% sativa hybrid cross of Kosher Kush and Tangie with a flowering time of 9-10 weeks.

This Christmas-light-bulb shaped bud is perfectly trimmed and well cured. The dense bud glistens with “gold” trichomes and almost displayed more dark orange pistils than the light and darker green leaves.

The aroma hits with a pungent citrusy orange, lime turpentine, sweet pine, and slight notes of earthiness. The flavor leads with the sour citrusy orange, lime, and piney sweetness. An earthy kush and sour fruit is added to the back end of the hit and the exhale. Notes of sour orange and earthy lime linger on the palate.

The strong head high from the Tangie parent functions more as the tradition energetic sativa with a euphoric and creative cerebral buzz. The strong body buzz from the Kosher Kush added the indica effect.

Mixed together, the strains combine for a superb mental pick-me-up emotionally and energetically, while relieving the body from stress and muscle aches. The high overall, even the body buzz, was a happy, mood-improving, and feel-good buzz.

John Grow #3 started growing his own medicine because it is the most affordable way for him to medicate and because it enables him to not have to rely on anybody else but himself when obtaining medication. He also produces his own medication so that he can ensure that it is organic.

“I would just like to point out how easy and how enjoyable it is to grow cannabis,” he said. “There’s a substantial percentage of the medical cannabis population who cannot afford the cost of medical cannabis.”
