Homegrown Review: Chick Magnet by John Grow #1
For our next Medical Patient Homegrown Review, an educational review series in which Illinois News Joint showcases homegrown medicine from Illinois patients in order to better inform our readers about exactly what registered patients are growing and why, we bring this review series back full circle with our very first medical patient: John Grow #1.
This series started with John Grow #1 harvesting Cookies & Cream #7, and now he’s back with his most recent harvest: Chick Magnet by Mass Medical Strains.

Chick Magnet is a cross of PuTang and Swabi Pakistani. For more information on the PuTang and Swabi Pakistani, check out Illinois News Joint Grow Journal 2.0 in which we ran Swabi Pakistani in our first grow journal and are currently running PuTang in our second grow journal.
Chick Magnet is the perfect strain to review for this series, because patients need to have information before committing an entire grow cycle. Chick Magnet’s unique sativa is for those patients who are usually seeking out these specific effects.

I don’t recommend growing this plant for a patient who prefers strong “know-out” indica or wants couclock or “thought gapping” effects. However, for patients like me who prefer anti-anxiety sativa with a unique flavor profile, then Chick Magnet would be the perfect strain to grow.
The aroma collides a Swabi Pakistani funk with strong notes of sweet orange, grape and other candied tones. The flavor of this shifts from orange and grape notes to that funk on the inhale and exhale. Throughout, the flavor also carries subtle unique notes of a floral and lavender sweetness.

This strain could not fit better for our Work Sativa review series. However, maybe the most important benefit is that Chick Magnet is a sativa for patients who are weary of racy sativa that might trigger panic attacks. Chick Magnet, on the other hand, delivers an uplifting, happy, clean, energetic high while reducing anxiety. The cerebral head high has focus, creativity, and motivation without losing potency. These effects place this strain in a special category for patients looking for open-minded and uplifting anti-anxiety sativa without the racy or paranoia effects.
For a sativa, Chick Magnet has a relatively short flower time of 9 weeks. John Grow #1, who has been a medical patient for more than a year and growing more than two years, started growing his own medicine “to provide myself clean, safe cannabis. I feel best knowing everything that went into growing my medicine.”
