The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) released today the recreational cannabis sales totals for the second half of the year, from June to December 2025. In 2025, Illinois dispensaries cannabis sales reached $1,506,740,852.75 with 52,146,122 total items sold.

June to December sales included:

June: 4,129,935 items sold and $116,714,320.73 in total sales.

July: 4,358,862 items sold and $114,987,665.39 in total sales.

August: 4,474,506 items sold and $115,175,036.15 in total sales.

September: 4,187,861 items sold and $105,183,934.36 in total sales.

October: 4,459,592 items sold and $113,078,161.23 in total sales.

November: 4,552,847 items sold and $110,379,690.10 in total sales.

December: 4,815,136 items sold and $116,577,927.34 in total sales.

Missing totals include in-state and out-of-state sales for June to November 2025. In-state and out-of-state sales for December 2025 were noted as partial totals, with the report stating, “In December, Metrc updated capabilities to include categorization of adult use sales into in-state and out-of-state consumers and dispensaries began reporting non-resident sales mid-month.” December in-state sales totaled $101,055,439.02 and out-of-state sales totaled $15,522,488.32.

This announcement, as with the May 2025 totals, also came with an asterisk that explained, “The State of Illinois went live with a new, state-of-the-art seed-to-sale, track-and-trace data system in July 2025. The new system, Metrc, rolled out across the cannabis industry over several months and concluded in June. The sales tracking features in Metrc help retailers more accurately and reliably report actual sales, including all discounts and promotions at checkout. A thorough review of past data indicates prior months collected some pre-discount prices. The number of items sold remained consistent across months, resulting in the improved data showing cannabis consumers have been paying less at checkout and with pre-tax prices similar to prices in other states that have legalized adult use cannabis. Sales receipts, subject to tax and tax collections, reported directly to the Illinois Department of Revenue by retailers were accurate and not impacted by the non-discounted prices reported through the previous seed-to-sale system.”
