News Joint Grow Journal 50: Maracuya by Homegrown Cannabis Co.
After a short break, I’m back with News Joint Grow Journal 7.0. For my 50th entry, I grew four more Work Sativa strains, including Maracuya by Homegrown Cannabis Co. Maracuya is a sativa-leaning cross of Sweet Pink Grapefruit and Orange Bud, bred by Nikki Lastreto and Swami Chaitanya, a.k.a. Nikki and Swami.
After popping the feminized seed, the first part of the grow went smoothly. About halfway through vegetation, I had to water the plant less often and pull back on nutrients (sponsored by FloraFlex representative Seed Attics). I topped the plant a little later than I usually do to keep them manageable, because I had to push back the date to flip the light cycle to flower the plant.
During the flowering stage, light green buds bloomed but soon turned into darker green sage and olive colors with dark-orange pistils. The aroma fit the strain’s namesake with a similar passion-fruit aroma throughout, switching from tart citrus, tangy lemon, grapefruit, and other sour tropical fruit. The plant grew bushy and symmetrical and started an earlier fade than the other three plants.
I chopped on the 65th day of flower, dried for 13 days, and cured in a mason jar. The plant was a little taller than three feet and produced a medium-sized yield. The aroma on the cure started with a little earth and soil but quickly transitioned into the sour passion fruit profile. The longer the cure, the more sour citrus, tangy lemon-lime, grapefruit, and tart gas came through, as well as a slight banknote of sweetness.
As far as Work Sativa goes, Maracuya skyrocketed to the top three on my list with a fantastic euphoric, uplifting, creative, and happy-go-lucky cerebral high that retained a sharp focus and productive mindset. For such an energetic head high, I was a little surprised at the strong body buzz Maracuya provided. Though the head high hit almost immediately, the body buzz crept slower, until landing with a heavy sinking feeling in my muscles that was relaxing and functional.
Though not my favorite flavor profile, I am pleased I found another Work Sativa with almost the exact effects I’m looking for. I’ll definitely grow this strain again, because I have been extremely productive while working, and the strain has what I call the right “temperament” for me, in that it eliminates negative thoughts and outside noise, while boosting my overall happiness. The strain produced a minimal crash at the end of the high and boosted my appetite more than expected. Stay tuned for more entries from News Joint Grow Journal 7.0.
