Review: Acapulco Gold by Interstate 420
Appearing in the Cheech & Chong classic Up In Smoke and literary works from Hunter S. Thompson to David Foster Wallace, Acapulco Gold is undoubtedly a legendary well-known strain. I’m a sucker for classic genetics, so I picked up an eighth to review when I recently spotted Interstate 420 Acapulco Gold on the menu at nuEra Urbana.
Acapulco Gold is a sativa-leaning hybrid strain. This batch of flower tested at 1.404% CBGa, 0.414% THC, 18.811% THCa, and 20.629% total cannabinoids. Terpenes were 1.556% of the total weight with terpinolene, β-caryophyllene, eucalyptol, and β-myrcene being the heaviest.

A handful of small popcorn buds, representing a spectrum of size from tiny to just larger than actual popcorn, filled the bottom of the mylar. Brightly colored with a blend of lime and turf green, these roughly trimmed flowers carried bunches of bright-orange hairs right at the surface. A light milky trichome frost concentrated at the creases where sugar leaves had once sat.
The aroma from the bag was a bright and sharp blend of fresh lime juice, mustard, tangy vinegar, concentrated pine, menthol, and hot-diesel gas. The tanginess from the aroma carried over to the palate with notes of lime, mustard, and pine coming through clearest. The flavor had staying power. A deep breath through the nose could produce notes of sweet lime and tangy pine long after the smoke was finished.
Acapulco Gold provided a quick-acting, clearheaded come up that reduced my anxiety and allowed me to focus sharply for well over a half hour after dosing. There was a lightness to my awareness and mood throughout, a hallmark of a great sativa at the core of the experience that made Acapulco Gold a good wake-n-bake choice.
Overall, this was a flavorful run and a solid picture of old school sativa genetics that hit the mark and left me looking forward to sampling more of this strain across the nuEra catalog. For more Illinois News Joint reviews, visit here.
