Review: Blueberry Headband & Bubba Diagonal Sugar by Grassroots
Recently, I have been noticing a slightly better variety of Illinois cannabis brands at my local dispensaries. So when I saw Grassroots with two concentrates on the menu, I picked up two live sugars: Blueberry Headband and Bubba Diagonal. I have reviewed the Blueberry Headband flower and knew what to expect. The Bubba Diagonal was a new and welcomed adventure.
Blueberry Headband Live Sugar
Blueberry Headband is a cross between (surprise!) Blueberry and Headband. This batch of live sugar boasted 83.96% THC levels and 0.46% CBD. The most prevalent terpenes in this batch were, in order, terpinolene, alpha-pinene, beta-myrcene, and limonene.
The large amounts of terpinolene and myrcene combined for a strong sweet floral scent, and the myrcene, limonene, and pinene added an equally strong citrus and pine smell with hints of musk.
These same terpenes combined for a fantastic flavor, and I don’t say that often about concentrates. The limonene took over in the front end of the taste, and all the other familiar flavors followed. On the back end of the exhale, the alpha- and beta-pinene really kicked in for a shaper pine flavor than I remember with the flower.
The live sugar had a granular consistency that was easy to handle and smoked well with a rig, vape, and dabbing pen. The Blueberry Headband also delivered that smooth even-keel high I expected from this hybrid.
I recommend Blueberry Headband for newcomers to concentrates because the strain doesn’t overwhelm. Even when I “overdabbed” on “accident,” the buzz did not have the anxiousness of a strong-energetic sativa or the knockout feel of a strong indica. The smooth classic cerebral high truly was in the middle and kicked in long before the body buzz hit. The body buzz had a gradually relaxing effect on my muscles and also leveled a smooth even-keel effect. Not too high. Not too low.
What I think made this batch of Blueberry Headband live sugar so dynamic was the plethora of terpenes that are not usually prevalent in other strains. For example, the high levels ocimene and Delta-3-Carene only added to the sweet, herb, and citrus flavors. And the alpha-phellandrene and ocimene helped reduce my muscle pain and increased my energy levels. These terps, along with the alpha-terpineol, combined for a strong anti-inflammatory for me in the evenings and at night.
Other prevalent terpenes included beta-caryophyllene, P-cymene, trans nerolidol, gamma-terpinene, guaiol, fenchyl alcohol, camphene, elemene, and more. The combination of these terpenes only strengthens my beliefs in the entourage effect.
Bubba Diagonal Live Sugar
I got what I expected from the Blueberry Headband but had no idea what to expect from the Bubba Diagonal. Now, I do. And I want more.
The strong indica live sugar was the same easy-to-handle granular consistency as the Blueberry Headband. Bubba Diagonal is a cross between Bubba and Triangle Kush. The batch of Bubba Diagonal live sugar boasted 78.52% levels of THC and 0.31% of CBD. The three most prevalent terpenes were limonene, beta-caryophyllene, and linalool.
Again, Grassroots has created a sugar with fantastic aroma and flavor. The limonene and linalool really come through in the lemony smell and taste. If you haven’t guessed by now, I am a fan of lemony flavors. In fact, I prefer the lemony and citrus flavors in concentrates to the earthy and spice, but usually the lemon and citrus flavors (usually sativa) don’t deliver the desired body buzz. I medicate with concentrates mainly at night for the body relaxation and overall sedation.
The Bubba Diagonal live sugar delivered the best of both worlds: tasty lemon and tropical fruits flavors with a heavy indica cerebral high and body buzz. Again, a dynamic combination of terpenes gave Bubba Diagonal the exact type of body buzz I’m looking for. The live sugar also improved my appetite each time I dosed, but unfortunately but the time my hunger hit, I was too tired and ready for bed.
The sugar also included high levels of secondary terpenes known for anti-inflammatory and pain relive, including alpha terpineol (Isomer), alpha-humulene, alpha-bisabolol, fenchyl alcohol, valencene, alpha-pinene, beta-pinene, and beta-myrcene. When added together, these pain relief terpenes were more prevalent than the top three terpenes. And combined with the small amounts of CBD for the exact anti-inflammatory pain relive and muscle relaxation, this concentrate delivered the exact nighttime medication I needed.
After the first doze, Bubba Diagonal live sugar quickly jumped to the front of the line for my nighttime concentrate regimen. It was the perfect late-night concentrate for me and has instantly become one of my favorites concentrates.
