Review: Future Flora Pheno Hunt: Paradise by Revolution
Sometimes, all it takes is one operator to disrupt a stagnant market. Revolution Cannabis has embraced this role in the Illinois legal market, particularly when it comes to community-driven pheno hunts. This concept, seen in states with less developed markets than our own, has now arrived in Illinois. I headed to Enlightened Mt. Prospect to pick up Revolution’s latest offerings—the new strains, Paradise #6 and Paradise #9 and its phenotype sampling program, Future Flora.
Paradise #6 and Paradise #9 are phenotypes of a Bubblegum and Gelato cross, created as a collaboration between Seed Junky and Cookies. Paradise #6 tested at 0.64% THC, 26.61% THCa, and 28.46% total cannabinoids. The primary indicated terpenes were β-caryophyllene, β-myrcene, limonene, α-humulene and α-pinene. Paradise #9 tested at 0.7% THC, 30.53%, THCa, and 32.3% total cannabinoids. The primary terpenes were β-myrcene, β-caryophyllene, limonene, α-pinene, and ocimene.
Both jars and the accompanying handout in the bag contain QR codes that provide a convenient link to a user-friendly website. Here, I selected the pheno and proceeded with a guided review session. Revolution has implemented a straightforward 1-5 rating system to evaluate factors such as aroma, strength, and potency. Additionally, the program encourages specific feedback on aroma, flavor, and structure. I also have the opportunity to choose from a diverse range of mental and physical effect descriptors, a familiar staple on Revolution’s labels. The process was effortless to follow, and as someone who regularly engages in structured sampling for nearly all the cannabis products I consume, I found that it enhanced my overall consumption experience, making it more enjoyable and mindful.
Paradise #6 presented itself visually with a substantial chunky cola at the top, accompanied by three smaller popcorn-sized nugs. The flowers were adorned with a generous coating of trichomes, imparting a sparkling effect and resulting in an orange-amber hue that contrasted with the underlying green tones. Throughout the buds, I noticed remnants of large sugar leaves that shared the same trichome sparkle as the rest of the flower.
On the other hand, Paradise #9 exhibited a more loosely structured appearance. Some buds displayed light foxtailing at the tips, adding a touch of uniqueness. The trichome coverage on this strain had a milky coloration, but still retained its captivating sparkle. The vibrant green undertone of the buds was accentuated by a handful of fiery orange hairs.
I opened the Paradise #6 jar to a rich earthy aroma with notes of soil, cheese, diesel, roasted tobacco, and caramel. On the palate, the cheese diesel and roasted tobacco carried over, enforcing the rich and savory profile. Paradise #9 was the more vibrant and complex of the phenos, and I rated it higher in the aroma category on the Future Flora platform. Perfume, cantaloupe, cheese, pungent musk, and roasty BBQ bounced my olfactory sense back and forth from floral to savory. On the palate, roasty soy sauce and BBQ gave the smoke a heavy mouthfeel on the inhale, followed by the palate refreshing floral-perfume note on the exhale.
Both phenotypes of Paradise made their presence known shortly after I started consuming them, inducing a relaxing sensation that enveloped my head and a soothing lightness in my body. Although the physical effects were quite similar between the two phenos, the mental experiences were strikingly different.
Paradise #6 provided a profoundly calming effect, creating a tranquil mental space free from anxiety. I found it particularly enjoyable as a way to unwind at the end of the day, as it effectively washed away any lingering worries from the previous day. On the other hand, Paradise #9 delivered a more energetic and creative experience. It sparked a burst of cerebral activity, leading to heightened thoughtfulness and creativity. Additionally, its mood-lifting properties were more potent compared to #6, ultimately earning it higher praise from me.
In conclusion, the entire Future Flora experience was highly enjoyable, and I eagerly anticipate the introduction of new genetics by Revolution on this community-driven platform. Both phenos of Paradise exemplify exceptional flower options in the Illinois market, and Revolution’s inclusion of consumers in the pheno selection process adds even more value and delight.
