Review: GMO Rootbeer by Kaviar
I’ve always been a fan of the classics. Old standby strains always grab my attention when spotted on a menu. Kaviar GMO Rootbeer instantly stood out by blending the old with something new. During a recent stop at Consume Marion, I picked up an eighth of Kaviar GMO Rootbeer to review.
GMO Rootbeer is a hybrid cross of GMO and Root Beer. This batch of flower tested at 1.935% THC, 36.436% THCa, and 40.584% total cannabinoids.

Long and thin, the flowers had a tall pine tree structure. The buds were turf green at the base with deep royal-purple splotches revealing the points where leaves once sat and a network of thick fire-orange hair crisscrossing the surface. An ambering trichome layer was visible with the naked eye, adding a slight golden hue. The flowers were dense in the hand but ground to a fine grind that left a hash-style greasiness on my fingers.
The aroma was thick with layers of hot mustard, ocean brine, an orangesicle combination of fresh orange and heavy cream, dried figs, wild onions, and wet slate that took some time and exploration to pick apart. The flavor unleashed a strong terpinolene top note of burnt orange in addition to the anchoring earth tones of wild onion and wet slate. The smoke was quite sticky, hanging in the air and clinging to the palate for several minutes after the bowl was finished.
GMO Rootbeer provided a “clean slate” effect for my headspace, clearing running thoughts and wiping away anxiety and worry within five minutes. A tightening headband pressure started to press on my brow, while the rest of my body became lighter and pain free, and all my muscle tension was wiped away. Both the mental clarity and release of physical tension lifted my energy levels making physical work and mentally focused deep dive work much easier.
