One of the more interesting developments of the last few years has been the explosion of options in the preroll space. Craft grower Realeaf Botanicals has been no stranger to this trend with various infused options, but its latest limited release goes even further with a joint paper made from hash itself. I recently stopped at Aroma Hill Kankakee and picked up a Realeaf Botanicals Hash Roll to review.

The Realeaf Botanicals Hash Roll is 0.8g of Mexican Flan hash filled with 0.5g of Super Nova flower. Mexican Flan is a hybrid cross of Mochi and Dosidos, and Super Nova is a hybrid cross of Blueberry and Afghani. This preroll tested at 0.11% CBDa, 2.187% THC, 28.784% THCa, and 33.577% total cannabinoids.

Just over three-and-a-half inches long including the inch-long wooden tip, the straight tube joint was slightly longer than I expected.  With a cursory glance, one could mistake the exterior for a dark blunt paper, but a closer inspection revealed a finely pressed sheet of hash. Crumbling under heavy handling, the hash exterior became tacky when warmed between two fingers. The flower inside had a large grind with visible purple pieces, orange hairs, and milky trichomes.

Out of the tube, the hash ruled with a savory and earthy blend of cracked black pepper, wet moss, cloves, and roasted herbs. Dry pulls added a fresh-cut wild-grass vegetal tone to the mix. The smoke delivered more of the same as the wet earthy moss and cloves coated the palate on the inhale, while the delicate dry wild grass tones persisted on the exhale. The Hash Roll delivered one of the most classic flavor experiences I’ve had this year.

Uplifting both mentally and physically, the Hash Roll leaned much more “sativa” than I anticipated. My muscles loosened, knocking out some of my chronic pain points, while leaving me with a weightless, floating sensation at the peak. Mentally, I shifted to a bubbly and optimistic headspace that was a good fit for socializing or playing with the family. After the peak, a clear and open mind made it easy to focus on work for a couple of hours. Overall, the Realeaf Hash Roll delivered a novel smoking experience with a surprisingly uplifting experiential profile.
