Review: Hazelnut Cream Ounce by matter.
In the first years of legalization in Illinois, ounces of premium flower were not to be found. In the second year, several half ounces and eventually ounces of popcorn buds appeared on dispensary menus. But 28g of premium flower from Illinois cultivators were few and far between, and the bulk buy often didn’t warrant enough of a discounted price for the purchase. I recently received an email inquiring about which cultivators in Illinois are now selling ounces of flower, so I had to check. One cultivator, Pharmacann, is now producing ounces of premium flower via its matter brand. So I thought I’d highlight the fact that Illinois does, after nearly three years, have ounces of premium flower for sale. I picked up this ounce of Hazelnut Cream to review.
Hazelnut Cream is a sativa-leaning cross of Miami Haze and Cookies & Cream. This ounce, picked up from Verilife Ottawa, tested at 21.07% THCa and 0.75% THC with limonene, linalool, β-caryophyllene, β-myrcene, and α-terpineol as the primary terpenes.

These were the biggest buds I’ve seen in a container since legalization. Chunky and turf green with a smattering of orange hairs, these flowers had some left over sugar leaves shrouding the glittering trichomes below. These large flowers cured well, displaying their considerable density and springy bounce back with a light squeeze.
Aged cheddar, popcorn, roasted nuts, butter, and cedar created a rich, thick aroma that hit my nose as soon as I opened the package. The cheese notes are particularly pungent, dominating the top end of the scent. Hazelnut Cream produced a flavor profile just as thick as its aroma, combining roasted nuts, malt, butter, and cedar.
Hazelnut Cream felt much more like a mood-boosting hybrid than an energetic sativa. A sense of relaxation and anxiety relief set in quickly. No matter how much I smoked, I remained clear headed and calm making Hazelnut Cream a great wake and bake option, even if it wasn’t highly motivating.
Light tingles moved through my arms and legs after a few hits but a full sesh provided stronger waves of body euphoria. Overall, Hazelnut Cream paired a rich flavor experience with an easygoing high. For more Illinois News Joint reviews, visit here.
