Review: Kush Mints by Floracal Farms
By @medsforheads
Floracal Farms, a California brand brought to Illinois by Cresco, has been garnering a fair buzz for its live rosin badders and cartridges, but I hadn’t heard many comments on Floracal flower. When I picked up an eighth of Kush Mints at Maribis of Chicago, I did so over my budtender’s recommendations of other strains because I wanted to see if the cured flower would stack up to the Candy Rain Live Rosin Badder I had tried a while back.
Having been harvested in April and packaged a month later, only nine weeks had passed between this plant getting the chop and reaching my lungs. Kush Mints is a Seed Junky genetic crossing Bubba Kush and Animal Mints, testing at 29.88% THCa this batch with no other notable cannabinoid content.
In the sealed jar sat five nicely trimmed buds, a mix of hunter green and violet in color with no machine holes. Under magnification, these buds appeared to retain a healthy population of trichome heads.
When I emptied the jar’s contents onto my rolling tray, I was surprised to find a small shard of glass among them. I couldn’t see any chips or flaws in the jar itself, so it may have entered the production line by another means. Luckily, I was able to remove it safely and proceeded with caution as I handled the flower.
The nugs were dry to the touch and had almost no surface aroma, with only a trace of earthiness detectable when my nose was practically pressed to the pistils. Snapping one apart released distant notes of mint and gas, a combination that proved more forthcoming after a grind which exuded a greater helping of chemmy astringency.
Kush Mints burned to a white ash with a very soft smoke that I found easy to inhale deeply, lacking anything in the way of a “terpene tickle.” Hardly any mint made its way into the flower’s kush-dominant flavor profile, leaving a gassy, biscuit-like taste against a background of mildly sweet earth that would make any Bubba fan want to party like it’s pre-1998.
While smoking the Kush Mints, I was uncertain I was getting high, causing me to give the joint my best quizzical Larry David look between hits. However, twenty minutes later I felt casually inebriated and motivated to clean my home before an arresting stoniness snuck up about an hour post-smoke.
As the day went on, the effects of the Kush Mints were lightly perceptible for several hours. With middle-of-the-road effects that culminated in prolonged tranquility, I’d recommend Kush Mints for afternoon use leading up to a solid night of sleep. For more Illinois News Joint reviews, click here.
