Review: Lemon Durban Cake Icing by Dabstract
If you want to know what strains someone really loves, ask them what they’re growing. For us at Illinois News Joint that means citrus-heavy sativa genetics, and we are always on the hunt for more. That was what caught my attention about Dabstract’s Lemon Durban Cake Icing, so I picked up a gram to review.
Lemon Durban is a cross of FoCo (Ft. Collins) Durban, Northern Lights, and Haze from the Bedford Grow genetic catalog. This batch of live resin tested at 2.82% THC, 80.9% THCa, and 86% total cannabinoids. Terpenes were 11.7% of the total weight with terpinolene, trans-ocimene, and limonene indicated as the heaviest.

Uniformly bright-sunflower yellow with a wet sheen across the top, the badder shined in the light. The top layer of terpene-heavy oil had a light viscosity, flowing off my tool in a slow drip but the body of the badder beneath had a dense cake batter texture. While the denser body wasn’t lacking in heavy flavor, the separate layer of oil gave me the option of plussing up the palate hit by adding more oil to a dose.
The aroma was a sharp-terpinolene heavy mix of burnt-orange peel, candied lemon, licorice, dry hops, and pineapple. Undertones of fresh pine, wet moss, and cooking mushrooms helped to round out the sharp top-end blend. The name was a perfect reflection of the flavor. The burnt orange terpinolene and candied-lemon top notes out competed the rest of the profile at every dab temperature. Coating the tongue, the flavor clung to the palate for several minutes post exhale.
Lemon Durban took some time to build but hit with a caffeine style burst of energy after ten minutes. My creative thoughts ramped up and a smile took over my face. My mood shifted to an imaginative optimism. The physical effects were limited to light muscle relaxation, making Lemon Durban a productive experience. Easily securing a spot on the Work Sativa list, Lemon Durban delivered on citrus heavy flavor and an energetic sativa high.
