Review: MAC 1 and GG#4 Live Resin Infused Prerolls by Ozone
As Illinois’ legal cannabis market has aged one of the more interesting evolutions has been the ways in which legal cannabis cultivators have navigated the gray area surrounding product sampling at events. While we are still a long way from ideal, there is progress being made. Cultivators providing branded samples was once described to me as “borderline impossible” by an event coordinator, but through some interesting use of the gifting portion of Illinois law, I received at this year’s Cannabis Camp two sample boxes of two 0.5 gram Live Resin Infused Prerolls, one MAC 1 and one Gorilla Glue #4, from Ozone.
MAC 1 is a hybrid cross of Alien Cookies, Columbian, and Starfighter. These infused prerolls tested at 9.83% THC, 20.2% THCa, and 31.02% total cannabinoids. GG#4 or Gorilla Glue is a hybrid cross of Chem Sister, Sour Dubb, and Chocolate Diesel. The GG#4 prerolls tested at 18.55% THC, 16.62% THCa, and 36.28% total cannabinoids.

Each preroll was a short, stubby filtered cone individually packaged in a tiny Ozone branded tube. While I found them easy to light and handle, the tiny size did require some careful smoking as these joints were more prone to canoeing.
The flavor on the MAC 1 was heavy with lemon and diesel gas at first, but I began to notice notes of heavy cream and cheese as the flavor blossomed. The flavor of the live resin also became more noticeable as the joint burned down, adding some complexity to the flavor profile.
MAC1 has always been a cerebral experience for me, and this was no different. This preroll left me feeling imaginative, flooded with big ideas but a bit too spaced out to properly articulate them. Physically, I was tingly and light without being overwhelmed. As time passed I began to notice some indica style body heaviness, almost as a bookend to the heavily cerebral high. I really enjoyed working in the afterglow of these, once the primary effects had worn off I found it easier to get into a flow.

The flavor of the GG#4 was almost a complete opposite to the MAC1 with a deep pine and earth flavor leading to fresh cedar on the finish. The live resin here was much heavier flavored and was much more star of the show than the accompanying note it was in the MAC1.
The effects of the Gorilla Glue started in my body with strong crashing waves of that classic heavy blanket indica sensation. I wanted nothing more than to cuddle into my couch after each of these joints. Mentally, I was quite relaxed and the stream of non-stop anxiety that runs throughout my days was turned down to a low murmur. I could really fit these well into my end of day routine.
As I said before, we have a long list of changes that need to be made to our regulations before we reach perfection when it comes to sampling, but right now cultivators are achieving their goal, drawing people to their products. The full size version of these infused pre rolls weren’t on my shopping list before, but now they are. That’s sampling success. For more Illinois News Joint reviews, visit here.
