Review: Mandarin Triangle Kush Live Rosin by PTS
If there’s one word that has taken over the world of cannabis in 2021, it’s solventless. What was once confined to some innovators with hair straighteners has become an industry in it’s own right with superstar producers and constantly evolving technology.
The limited Illinois market hasn’t fostered a lot of innovation, but Progressive Treatment Solutions (PTS) has intelligently positioned itself ahead of the coming wave of craft producers by getting to market with its own line of live hash rosin presses. I was lucky enough to pick up a gram of Mandarin Triangle Kush Live Rosin from Consume Marion recently.
Mandarin Triangle Kush (flower review here) is an indica leaning hybrid cross of iconic Triangle Kush (Florida-grown version of the classic OG Kush) and Mandarin Sunset (Herijuana with Orange Skunk). This gram of live rosin tested at 48.93% THCA and 52.86% total cannabinoids. The most prevalent terpenes were b-caryophyllene (at over 5%!), limonene, a-humulene, b-elemene, and guaiol.
This gram of rosin came as a mound of wet khaki colored wax that pulled on the end of my tool like fresh taffy. The rosin was very sticky, and it made dosing a bit of an experiment. I also whipped my gram a couple times during my sampling as I could see the terpenes pool on the surface between opens.
The aroma in the jar was candy sweet on the top end and reminiscent of sweet tarts before notes of citrus peel, humidor cedar, cracked black pepper, and diesel gas appeared. I used the cold start method to dab this high terpene extract, and I cannot recommend that enough for consumers. Low temperatures are by far the best way to enjoy these. The low temp approach allowed the sweet note of citrus peel and the savory black pepper and diesel to complement each other well.
The effects were less than what I expected from an indica and leaned more towards a relaxing hybrid. My mental state remained playful and functional throughout while my body progressed from a light tingle through to a full “warm blanket” indica experience. Despite the strong and heavy body effects, I never became mentally tired or distracted from whatever I was working on.
Overall, PTS has created a solid rosin that gives it a leg up on the competition by entering into a market segment that has very few players in Illinois. The high terpene content and comfortable high make for a great experience, and I’m excited to see more entries from its presses.
