Review: Maui Wowie by Grassroots
Nearly 20 years ago while in a main touristy area in Honolulu, I stumbled across a man sitting on the sidewalk. In front of him was a banner with a huge pot leaf and the words, “Need money for alcohol.” Wile staring at the pot leaf on the banner, I said I could help him if he helped me. He nodded, and a man ran down the stairs behind me and said to follow him. Long story short, I bought two grams of what was supposed to be Maui Wowie on a beach in O‘ahu. So when I noticed Maui Wowie by Grassroots on the menu at Curaleaf Mokena, I picked up a sample to compare to my trip to Hawaii.
Maui Wowie is a sativa-dominant hybrid that originated in Hawaii. This 1g of flower tested at 0.39% THC, 24.33%, and 25.60% total cannabinoids. This gram came as two small thumb-tip size buds that varied in color from light to dark green with some purple mixed in. Each bud contained a substantial amount of orange-red pistils and creamy trichomes.

A sweet hoppy aroma with notes of earth and pine wafted from container. The flavor did not match the aroma. The inhale hit with sweet tropical fruit flavors, including pineapple and mango. The exhale added notes of pine, spice, and earth mixed with a sweet aftertaste.
The effects fit well for our Work Sativa review series. The head high was cerebral, euphoric, and uplifting. The clearheaded high allowed me to focus on work for long stretches of time and put me in an overall mellow but productive mood.

Mellow, in mood not potency, was the feeling I remember most about smoking bud in Hawaii. This Maui Wowie shared the same stress-relieving qualities while keeping me active and motivated. The overall body buzz delivered a muscle relaxation that carried that same mellowness to it.
Though the head high was not putting me on another planet mentally, the length of the high lasted longer than expected. Whenever I assumed the high would wane, the high pushed forward with the same potency it started with.

I could easily rotate Maui Wowie into my work sativa medication, especially for morning and early day use. I also medicated with Maui Wowie before running errands and other chores, as well as in the evenings while gaming. For more Illinois News Joint reviews, click here.
