Review: Nomad Grinder Wanderer’s Kit
I wanted to review a grinder for ILNJ, but at first, I could not find one suited for the website. After all, what could I possible say about it? It’s a grinder. It grinds. I thought about reviewing grinders that are also speaker or a grinder that looks like the Death Star (and maybe still will). But those weren’t really my style—not for the first grinder review. For my paraphernalia, I usually prefer durability, practicality, and (most of the time) discretion but could not find anything that fit. Until I saw Nomad Grinders.
Nomad Grinders, based in Austin, Texas, delivers the three characteristics I’m searching for in a grinder. First and foremost, Nomad Grinders definitely are durable. They are made of solid aluminum and come fully complete with diamond cut sheering teeth, micron mesh screen, storage and kief catch. The actually grinding of the flower works as good or better than any grinder I’ve used. But I chose Nomad Grinders for review because it offers more than a practical heavy-duty grinder. It offers an arsenal of accessories that can be concealed inside the top of the grinder.
Each Nomad Grinder Wanderer’s Kit comes with a glass chillum, zeppelin pipe, pack of rolling paper, dab container, steel spoon, and lighter. These accessories can be discretely concealed inside the grinder’s compartment with a screw-top lid. The grinder keeps odors discrete and each accesory in one spot. The products are built to last and are idea for traveling, hiking, and camping. I would have loved to have the Nomad Grinder Wanderer’s Kit for those few years of my life that I constantly canoed and camped.
I travel all over Illinois, and as the state reopens, I can’t wait to take the Nomad Grinder Wanderer’s Kit with me on trips. But even when I am not outdoors or traveling, I like to keep my paraphernalia in one place (probably because of lifetime of having to be discrete), and Nomad Grinders offers that in spades. Nomad Grinders’ stated goal is to “create a quality product that can take all of your goodies on the road and keep them protected and stashed.” And it delivers.
Inside the top of the grinder, for the only trip I have been able to make, I first made sure I had the glass chillum. This is probably my favorite accessory. I love glass pipes of all kinds, but I have issues gripping small items. I eventually drop or break them, which is frustrating and expensive. But the Nomad venture glass chillum is protected with a 100% food grade silicone cover that makes the chillum nearly unbreakable. How do I know? I’ve already dropped it twice, once on wood and once on concrete, and it’s fine.
I also really like the zeppelin pipe that comes with the kit. The pipe is made of high quality aluminum for easy cleaning. As mention in a previous review, I used to love this little sneak-a-toke I owned in my youth, and this zeppelin pipe is an update version that also provides the discretion I’m often looking for while traveling. This pipe is perfect for when leaving the camping area or hotel but still wanting access to a discreet smoking device.
For the last two nights, I have rolled a joint with the Nomad Blazers that come with the kit. The hemp-based rolling paper is all natural and GMO-free. The paper uses 100% organic vegetarian Arabic gum. Though I am an absolutely terrible joint roller, the papers burned smoothly and steadily without drowning out the Purple Punch’s hashy and berry flavor.
Also included in the kit are the 100% food-grade silicone FDA-approved (3ml) dab container, the double-sided stainless steel spoon and poker, and the Nomad lighter. The lighter is sleek and made of dark grey high-grade steel. The butane levels can be easily viewed on the lighter’s side window and refilled cleanly and quickly with any butane fuel for torch lighters. The tight blue flame is nearly wind proof, great for outdoors, and can be pointed up or down to spark a joint or bong.
For night use, the grinder also has a Nomad Halo LED light band that straps around the grinder to illuminate the kit when in a tent or off the grid. The halo light band can also be used a wrist bracelet for better lighting when handling all the accessories to the kit or sparking a joint or pipe. The band comes with a flash mode and a steady setting. Nomad has other accessories too that do not come with the Wanderer’s Kit, including tri-blend T-shirts, hats, tin storage, the Big Lug pipe, and Smooth Rip Natural Filters.
Overall, I could not be happier with my Grinder Wanderer’s Kit. The grinder and accessories provide the exact durability, practicality, and discretion I look for in paraphernalia products.
