Review: Papaya x Gelato by PTS
It’s been more than five months since we reviewed a product from East St. Louis cultivator Progressive Treatment Solutions. In that time, PTS has introduced some new strains to the genetic library and elevated the production of some of its classics. I headed to Consume Marion to grab some samples of its newer offerings, including this Papaya x Gelato.
Papaya x Gelato is an indica-leaning hybrid cross. This batch of flower tested at 0.3% CBG, 0.72% CBGa, 0.43% Delta-9-THC, 22.6% THCa, and 23.91% total cannabinoids. Terpenes were 1.42% of the total weight with β-caryophyllene, limonene, linalool, and guaiol as the most prevalent. As always, I take the time here to commend PTS for including a QR code on the package that links to a full testing panel CoA.

This eighth came as a handful of popcorn style flowers, half slightly larger than actual popcorn, half slightly smaller. There was a lot of variety to the coloration with multiple shades of green and purple layered seemingly at random and a bright pink that revealed itself when the flower was ground. PTS included a humidity control pack inside the jar that contributed to the spongy, freshly dried feel of these flowers.
The scent inside the jar was a combination of sweet cream, mango, papaya, and sage on the top end, followed by closing tones of sandalwood, cedar, malt, and pepper. There was a synergy between the tropical fruit tones and sweet cream that created a fruity sorbet note that brought me back repeatedly. The mango and sage were the stand out notes on the palate, creating an old school perfume effect that dominated the inhale with the cedar and pepper taking over the exhale.
Papaya x Gelato took quite some time to fully set in, opening physically with some euphoric tingling that struck me as more sativa than indica. Mentally, Papaya x Gelato worked well to treat general anxiety, but the headspace became cloudy and dazing after about half an hour.
This slow-to-build quality was also physical, as the initial sativa-style euphoria became a heavier muscle relaxation as time passed. Papaya x Gelato was a jack-of-all-trades experience with an intriguing flavor profile that kept me revisiting. For more Illinois News Joint reviews, visit here.
