Review: Red Velvet by Revolution
One of the more interesting strain runs of 2023 was watching as Revolution honed in the Cookies’ genetic lineup with some of the brand’s well-known strains, such as Georgia Pie and Red Velvet. I stopped into Enlightened Mount Prospect and picked up a sample of Red Velvet to see how Revolution’s run stacked up.
Red Velvet is a hybrid cross of Lemon Cherry Gelato and Pink Acai. This batch of flower tested at 0.63% THC, 29.46% THCa, and 30.94% total cannabinoids. The indicated terpenes were β-caryophyllene, limonene, linalool, and ocimene.
Two large flowers with points reaching out from the rounded core were dark green at the base with thick bright-orange hairs reaching out and a milky trichome frost concentrated at the creases, where sugar leafs had once been. Spongy, with a lively spring back upon being pinched, the bud had a freshly dried texture throughout and a fluffy grind.
Tangy gas dominated the top end of the scent out of the jar with hints of sweet raspberry and heavy cream, followed by a more spice-heavy finish of thyme and black pepper. The smooth dry was evident in more than the texture alone as the flower burned very smooth and clean. The hot and tangy gas tone once again dominated on the flavor profile with only hints of cream and pepper appearing at the exhale.
Red Velvet provided a fast onset physical buzz that sent waves of warm pressure down from my crown throughout my body by the end of the first bowl. My mood also took a positive turn as a wave of talkativeness set in and persisted for almost an hour. The “long tail” of Red Velvet was indeed long with a strong physical and mental relaxation persisting for more than two hours after the initial talkative buzz had passed.
Red Velvet was a good evening buzz that allowed me to stay social during dinner then relax for the rest of the evening without re-dosing. For more Illinois News Joint reviews, visit here.
