Review: Sour Cakes Mini Prerolls by Binske
Through a partnership with multi-state label, Ascend Wellness Holdings, one of the most recent additions to the Illinois market is Binske. I stopped into Ascend Horizon Drive and picked up a pack of the brand’s Sour Cakes mini prerolls to review.
Sour Cakes is a hybrid cross of Birthday Cake and Sour Diesel. This pack of preroll tested at 0.150% CBDa, 0.656% THC, 35.48% THCa, and 38.617% total cannabinoids. Terpenes were 2.33% of the total weight with limonene, β-caryophyllene, and valencene being the most prevalent.

Seven 0.5g prerolls came packed in a plastic insert inside a metal tin. Each tightly packed mini cone was just less than three-inches long, a third of the length being the Binske branded crutch. The flower inside was a consistent deep-forest green from joint to joint. The combination of small size and tight roll made for an evenly burning pack of joints that smoked smoothly without babysitting or prework.
Both the container aroma and initial dry pulls were light with notes of hot mustard and spicy cinnamon. The flavor was more complex but with notes of fresh dill, mustard seed, wild grass, and lime peel, creating the top end and the same spicy cinnamon from the aroma working alongside a warm cedar tone to provide the finish. Despite the lightness of the overall profile, it was surprisingly sticky with hints of dill and mustard seed clinging to the palate long after the joint was done.
Sour Cakes opened with a spaced out and introspective headspace that hit so quickly it caught me off guard. My mental energy sapped, I became quieter and more body focused as the experience continued. Waves of vibrating and tingling sensations passed from my head downward into my core, relaxing chronic muscle pain. Overall, Sour Cakes impressed despite its light flavor profile with a deep and effective experience, and I left looking forward to sampling the strain in other forms.
