Review: Tropic Thunder Briq Vape by Select
As the legal market continues to mature, so do the needs of consumers. This has driven the expansion of vapes from half-gram to one-gram carts, and now, Illinois is starting to see even larger options hit menus. Select recently dropped a line of two-gram all-in-one disposable vapes called Briq, so I stopped into Curaleaf Skokie and picked up a couple strains to review, starting with Tropic Thunder.
The Select Tropic Thunder Briq Vape is a 2-gram disposable vape filled with a distillate-based oil infused with botanically derived terpenes. This batch of oil tested at 83.3% THC and 87.33% total cannabinoids.

I found the Briq device fascinatingly compact, at less than two-inches by one-inch, the entire device had less footprint than a standard Bic lighter. The bottom four-fifths of the vape was a black soft touch plastic with a USB-C charger at the bottom and an oil visibility window on the side. The top was a glassy hard-plastic mouthpiece with a clear ring, that when activated, lit up yellow where the top attached to the soft plastic bottom. Activation was a simple hit mechanism, and there were no buttons or settings to adjust. Select included a charging cable in the bag, anticipating the 2 grams of oil would outlast the battery.
It was easy to take large pulls repeatedly from the vape, and the Briq consistently produced larger clouds than a standard disposable stick vape. The flavor was light overall, leaning towards a slightly tangy blend of hot gas, lime, and hops. When taking exceptionally large pulls, additional notes of grapefruit and salty ocean appeared. Overall, the flavor and resulting vapor was very discrete.
The Tropic Thunder Briq experience was very dose dependent with lighter doses slowly building but multi rip sessions resulting in a sharp come up that induced a tingling sensation throughout my chest, alongside a feeling of overall lightness. Mentally, Tropic Thunder provided a calming space that relieved low-level daily anxiety for a short time, but fell short of long lasting stress relief.
Like most distillate based oils, the effects of the Tropic Thunder Briq was short lived with the peak coming and going by the fifteen minute mark, and the entire experience over in less than an hour. The Briq makes a good fit for consumers looking for a discrete long lasting option with a classic distillate experience profile. For more Illinois News Joint reviews, visit here.
