Review: Venom Pupils by Grassroots
It’s no secret I enjoy high-energy motivational sativa. One breeder, Mass Medical Strains, purposely creates some of my favorite high-energy motivational strains. Mass Medical’s signature strain is Star Pupil, so when I noticed Grassroots had cultivated a newish strain called Venom Pupils (though not a sativa), I picked up an eighth at Curaleaf Mokena to review.
Venom Pupils is a hybrid cross between Venom OG (Poison OG and Rare Dankness #1) and Star Pupil. This batch tested at 21.45% THCa, 1.09% THC, and 22.68 total cannabinoids with myrcene as its primary terpene.
Venom Pupils had bag appeal with three huge buds, a medium-size bud, and smaller nugs. The fluffily colorful buds were filled with dark greens, shades of purple, and rusty pistils.
The aroma led with chemmy and kushy pine with notes of earthy mint and a slight sweetness. The flavor followed with the chemmy and kushy pine on the front end with back notes of earthy sweetness. On the exhale, the chemmy and kushy pine sweetened until the exhale ended with faint sour candy grapes.
Venom Pupils’ quick onset hit with a relatively clear head high and creeping body buzz for true hybrid effects. The cerebral effects I would not categorize as uplifting or sleepy but rather a mood-improving high that relieved mental and emotional stress. The head high became a little foggy later in the buzz, but I was able to function and get work done late at night.
The body buzz slowly crept into my muscles (on a day after shoveling snow) and seemed to add to the heaviness of the buzz. More doses added to the body buzz, and midway through the high, the body buzz took over causing an overall drowsiness. Venom Pupils did not knock me out but instead slowly and happily pushed me toward that direction, until later after a few doses, I eventually slept well.
