Review: Washington Apple by Island
Even as someone who consistently samples new products, I’m still finding new strains with obscure parentage on menus. I recently stopped at Emerald Dispensary and picked up the new-to-me Washington Apple from Island.
Washington Apple is an indica-leaning hybrid cross of Pez and Ortega. This batch of flower tested at 0.589% THC, 41.315% THCa, and 43.895% total cannabinoids. Terpenes were 1.97% of the total weight with limonene, linalool, and β-myrcene indicated as the heaviest.

A handful of small, rounded flowers carried a deep-forest-green base tone highlighted by wiry orange hairs and dark purple splotches where sugar leaves had grown. The trichome layer was easily visible with the naked eye. Right at the transition point from clear to milky, the trichomes sparkled when held to the light. Dense and sticky all the way through, the small buds took some effort to spin through my grinder.
A heavy blend of aged cheddar, cinnamon, cut lumber, cooking pastry dough and musk escaped with the jar when I broke the seal. Further exploration revealed sweeter highlights of candied orange peel, fresh pear, and sweet peppers. On the palate the notes of buttery pastry dough, musk, orange, and sweet peppers created a layered flavor experience that was strong in the moment but lacked staying power.
Washington Apple took 15 minutes to fully unfold, bringing on a creeping wave of muscle relaxation and pressure, weighing me down as it grew. My slate was wiped mentally, and my anxiety and motivation were replaced with a spaced out but peaceful headspace. The delay in onset was more than made up for by a long-lasting effect with the muscle relaxation remaining in place for almost two hours. Overall, Island delivered a deeply flavored and heavy hitting indica in Washington Apple.
