Two new Chicago dispensaries received early approval for a “same site” adult use cannabis licenses April 6.

These licenses will permit Sunnyside (at 436 N. Clark St. Chicago, IL 60654) and MOCA-Modern Cannabis (at 436 N. Clark St. Chicago, IL 60654) to begin adult use cannabis sales at that location, provided the dispensary complies with local zoning rules or other local laws.

The license would allow Sunnyside to open its sixth dispensary in Illinois. Sunnyside also had dispensaries in Champaign, Elmwood Park Rockford, and Chicago.

MOCA-Modern Cannabis has one existing store at 2369 N Milwaukee Ave in Chicago.

These recent approvals by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation raise the total number of approved “same site” licenses to 49 and the total number of dispensaries licensed to sell adult use cannabis to 53. Under the law, existing medical cannabis dispensaries are permitted to open an adult use dispensary at the same site as their medical dispensary, as well as a second site for adult use sales at a different location.

In addition, IDFPR recently concluded its first round for new applicants, including social equity applicants, who had the opportunity to apply for an additional 75 adult use cannabis licenses. Social equity applicants are eligible for additional points on their application and for technical assistance, low-interest loans and fee reductions. Those licenses will be granted beginning May 1.

The Department anticipates receiving additional applications for early approval adult use licenses as municipalities adopt relevant zoning ordinances regarding adult use cannabis.

February 14, the IDFPR announced two dispensaries that are thirteen miles apart received early approval for a “same site” adult use cannabis licenses.

The two dispensaries include Mindful Dispensary at 1433 W. Fullerton Avenue Suite. C in Addison and Nature’s Care Company at 975 Rohlwing Rd. Rolling Meadows.

The medical dispensaries that received early approval adult use licenses in  January included Rise Quincy at 2703 Broadway St. in Quincy and The Green Solution at 2021 Goose Lake Road in Sauget.
