CRI Public Research Series to host Dr. Mendoza Temple
The Cannabis Research Institute (CRI) invites the public to attend its second CRI Public Research Series, an initiative designed to make cannabis research transparent, accessible, and collaborative. CRI has scheduled Dr. Leslie Mendoza Temple, MD, ABOIM, as the Public Research Series’ second guest speaker.
This session will introduce the recently published JAMA Network Open consensus statement, “Developing Medical Cannabis Competencies,” which identifies six evidence-based competencies to guide undergraduate medical education. Temple, a coauthor of the framework, will discuss the Delphi consensus process, summarize the six core competencies, and explain how these evidence-informed foundations can close existing knowledge gaps in health professions education. This virtual event is free and open to the public. Visit here to register for the presentation, which is set for 12-1 p.m. on Dec. 1, 2025.
The presentation will explore:
– An overview of the recently published JAMA Network Open article, Developing Medical Cannabis Competencies, and its six evidence-based domains for medical education.
– Insights from Temple, a coauthor of the framework, on the development process and its implications for preparing future clinicians.
– A discussion of how educators and institutions can begin aligning existing curricula with emerging competency-based standards.
Intended audience for this presentation includes faculty, curriculum planners, medical and health professions educators, and students interested in integrating evidence-based cannabis and endocannabinoid system content into clinical education.
Temple is the Owen L. Coon Endowed Chair of Integrative Medicine, Medical Director of the Integrative Medicine Program at Endeavor Health, Clinical Professor of Family Medicine at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, and Chair of the Illinois Medical Cannabis Advisory Board.
