Grow Journal 66: Squirt by Humboldt Seed Company (Part 1)
Along with three lemon strains, I popped for this grow cycle Squirt by Humboldt Seed Company. I’d been wanting to grow Squirt for a couple years. I’m a huge fan of orange and fruit flavors and thought this strain would fit our Work Sativa series.
Squirt is a sativa-dominant cross (20% Indica/80% Sativa) of Blueberry Muffin and Tangie. I popped one feminized seed in a solo cup and transplanted into a five-gallon fabric pot after a few weeks. During vegetation, I topped the plant early, two to three nodes. The bushy plant grew uniformly, needed less water than the other plants in the tent, and had a sweet-smelling stem rub early on.
As mentioned in the last grow journal for Lemon Bubblegum, I flipped all plants a week or two early than usual, because I was trying to time the chop date to better fit my schedule. Even during vegetation, I could tell this chemotype was going to be more Blueberry Muffin than Tangie. During the middle of vegetation, I performed Kyle Kushman’s supercropping and “chiropractic” techniques, including when I also lollipopped the plant about a week before flipping to flower.
During vegetation and flowering, I used Nectar for the Gods nutrient line, SLF-100, Fishshit, and Cultured Biologix no-brew microbial teas (all sponsored by The Apple House in Terre Haute) and grew under a BlackBird light sponsored by HLG. During flowering, the stem rub remained sweet with blends of berry and kush pastries. The plant grew round and bushy, more like an indica, and had a short stretch during flowering but popped buds faster than the other plants. The bright green buds with white pistils transitioned into darker green buds with purpling sugar leaves and dark orange pistils.
The buds delivered even more sweet pastries with hints of citrus and berries and developed a heavy layer of trichomes late into flower. I chopped the plant at nine weeks and lightly trimmed the largest sugar leaves before placing the buds inside my Cool Cure to dry. I dried the buds in four days and cured for four days in the Cool Cure before placing the fully trimmed buds into Grove Bags and mason jars.
