Homegrown Review: The Spice by John Grow #9
After my last Medical Patient Homegrown Review and this one, readers might be thinking I am bringing in ringers. I’m not. At least not on purpose. For our third installment in re-launching our educational review series, we return with another special strain from another experienced grower.
John Grow #9 showcased from his recent harvest The Spice from Twenty20 Mendocino feminized seed. The Spice is a hybrid cross of Biscotti x The Whip! (reversed) and takes only 7-8 weeks to flower. This batch tested at 26.607% THC and 31.695% total cannabinoids.

The dense almost egg-shaped buds had as much or more bag appeal than any top-shelf brand. According to Twenty20, this strain was developed for gas lovers. But the multifaceted terpene profile was more complex and diverse than just gas. The fragrance alone justified its namesake, but the complex flavor really set The Spice apart from other strains.
The flavor had a true potpourri of spices, including nutmeg, cinnamon, sweet ginger, anise, cardamom, cloves, and more. Interestingly, though, the flavor did include pepper as one of those spices. Instead, along with the spice flavors, the inhale and exhale carried a smooth gassiness with hints of cream and citrus.

The potent effects hit with a quick head-high onset. Heaviness crowned the head, and the strain often caused thought wondering. Though heavy, the head high was not tiresome, until maybe late-late into the buzz. The body buzz also had a quick onset and became heavier with each dose. The body buzz was sedative and not necessarily couchlocked but also not totally motivating to move off the couch either.
Overall, patients seeking relief from anxiety, stress, muscle pains, cramps, and mental tightness, The Spice would be a good strain to grow. For patients who love diverse and complex spice flavors with (without the harsh pepper), The Spice might be the best strain available right now.
The patient requested this information be released: John Grow #9 and his grow journaling can be found at @kush_terps5 and @kush_terps_. John Grow #9 grows in recycled organic soil with the theory that “less is more” when growing. “The less I do to my plants, the more I get outta my buds,” he said.
