IDOA releases informational bulletin for new cannabis laws
The Illinois Department of Agriculture Division of Cannabis Regulation (IDOA-DCR) released a bulletin that focuses on the immediate impacts of Senate Bill 3222 on cultivation centers, craft growers, infusers, and transporters licensed by the Division of Cannabis Regulation. The Division will issue a separate bulletin regarding the updates to the Industrial Hemp Act and the impacts of the new Illinois Hemp Act that take effect on November 12, 2026.
Governor J.B. Pritzker signed Public Act 104-463 (SB3222, sponsored by Senator Kimberly Lightford and Representative Will Guzzardi) on June 12, 2026. The bill represents one of the largest legislative updates since the passage of the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act in 2019. The bulletin provides more details about the following provisions:
Transporter Storage Sites
– Immediate 14,000 Square Feet Allowance for Craft Growers
– Dispensary Name on Packaging
– Federal Medical Cannabis Label Requirement
– Infuser License Application
– Cannabis Testing Lab Licensing
– Hardship Waivers
– Cannabis Agent Badges
– Camera Storage
– HVAC Requirement
