Illinois appoints Medical Cannabis Advisory Board Chair and Vice-Chair
The Office of the Governor sent two letters to Alexi Giannoulias informing the Secretary of State that two new appointments have been designated to the Medical Cannabis Advisory Board (MCAB). Governor JB Pritzker appointed a new Chair and Vice-Chair to MCAB for the Illinois Department of Public Health.
In one letter, Pritzker appointed current board member Dr. Leslie Mendoza Temple as Chair, and in another letter, Pritzker appointed current board member Jim Champion as Vice-Chair, two positions that had to be filled by law. Board Chair is a position Temple is familiar with. She served as Chair for Illinois’ first medical cannabis advisory board. Champion served as the Veterans representative for the first board and the current board. This appointment is the first time Champion has been appointed to a position on the board.
“Excited to serve with esteemed Co-Chair and friend, retired veteran James Champion,” Temple announced. “Jim and Sandy Champion were instrumental in getting the original medical cannabis law passed with Rep. Lou Lang in Illinois through grassroots efforts. I hope we can keep improving this amazing but complex program for the state of Illinois.”
“I couldn’t be happier to serve with someone of her integrity, organization, and intelligence,” Champion said. “The previous board ran smoothly, and I expect nothing different this time. Together, we will work to improve this vital program and increase accessibility for the patients of Illinois.” For more Illinois cannabis industry news, subscribe to Illinois News Joint’s newsletter here.
