Illinois doubles cannabis possession limits
Although Illinois was the first state to legalize cannabis through legislation, the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act cannabis possession limits have been lower than most other legal states. With the passage of Senate Bill 3222, possession limits for Illinois residents age 21 and older will double.
The new limits will be:
(1) 60 (from 30) grams of cannabis flower
(2) no more than 1,000 (from 500) milligrams of THC contained in a cannabis-infused product
(3) 10 (from 5) grams of cannabis concentrate
(4) for registered qualifying patients, any cannabis produced by cannabis plants they have grown, provided that any amount of cannabis produced in excess of 60 (from 30) grams of raw cannabis or its equivalent must remain secured within the residence or residential property in which it was grown
For a individuals age 21 and older and who are not a resident of Illinois, the new possession limits are:
(1) 30 (from 15) grams of cannabis flower
(2) 5 (from 2.5) grams of cannabis concentrate
(3) 500 (from 250) milligrams of THC contained in a cannabis-infused product
In contrast, for recreational use, Missouri allows up to 3 ounces of flower, or 8 grams of concentrates, and 800 mg of infused products. California and Colorado allow up to 28.5g (1 ounce) of flower and up to 8 grams of concentrates. Michigan allows up to 2.5 ounces of flower and up to 15 grams can be concentrate. Massachusetts allows up to 2 ounces of flower.
