Newly introduced SB2725 bans caffeinated hemp beverages
The 104th General Assembly is back in session, and the first cannabis-related bill has been introduced. Sen. Julie A. Morrison introduced Senate Bill 2725 (SB2725) on Oct. 28. The amendments to the Industrial Hemp Act would provide that “no hemp cannabinoid shall be bottled and sold for purchase in a package or container that contains caffeine, including, but not limited to, ready to drink beverages.”
The amendments define hemp cannabinoid “as naturally occurring phytocannabinoid derived from the hemp plant that does not have an intoxicating effect on the mind and body.” Those cannabinoids include
(1) cannabidiol (CBD)
(2) cannabichromene (CBC)
(3) cannabicitran (CBT)
(4) cannabicyclol (CBL)
(5) cannabielsoin (CBE)
(6) cannabigerol (CBG)
(7) cannabidivarin (CBDV)
(8) cannabinol (CBN)
After Tuesday’s first reading, the bill was then referred to Assignments.
