News Joint Grow Journal 20: Five Signature Strains
We are excited to launch our second grow: News Joint Grow Journal 2.0. News Joint Grow Journal is an educational series with the mission to inform and education home growers of all experience levels and to encourage the legal growing of cannabis, from Illinois to the world, one journal entry at a time.
News Joint Grow Journal 2.0 will follow the original News Joint Grow Journal as the 20th journal entry. For Grow Journal 2.0, I’m skipping the preamble that included my growing history, Illinois law, grow space, nutrients (though I added Fishshit to this grow) and other introductory information, which can be read in the first News Joint Grow Journal. Instead, I’m starting with my theme: Five Signature Strain.
For Grow Journal 2.0, I procured a “Signature Strain” from five breeders. As mentioned in Grow Journal 4, as someone who has reviewed hundreds Illinois strains and read nearly as many lab test results for strains, I know exactly which specific genetics I wanted to grow and why.
My choices for medical effects are also the same as my first grow. I mostly want high-energy sativa with cerebral focus that motivates me to work during the day (also know as our Work Sativa Review series) and one “knockout” night indica.
For Grow Journal 2.0, I skipped a CBD-heavy strain because I’d created FECO with the trimmings of my first grow, which has plenty of CBD for when I need that complete heavy body relief. I wanted to replace the CBD-heavy strain with a kushy/hazy hybrid for use during evenings and nights.
I also sought out strains with more dynamic flavors than my first grow and was lucky enough to find breeders who took a chance on sponsoring exactly what I was looking for (I can be persistent). I could not be happier with the “Five Signature Strains” I am running for Grow Journal 2.0.
- Tenzin Kush #4 x Hazy Kush by Green Bodhi
- Jillybean by MzJill Genetics
- PuTang by Mass Medical Strains
- Peanut Butter Cookies by Tastebudz
- Strawberry Cough by Kyle Kushman
To change the structure and aesthetics of the grow journal, I’ve decided to focus on one strain per entry instead of all five strains in each entry. Each strain will be covered throughout a longer period of growth and with more detail. I will rotate the strains in the same order I listed them above.
I truly feel honored to be running these strains and can’t wait to share the process of growing these plants with everyone.
