News Joint Grow Journal 76: Burgers n’ Beer (Part 1)
I’ve been trying to find a sedative nighttime strain to put me to sleep. In the past, Donny Burger has done the job, so I popped the only Donny Burger cross I have: Burgers n’ Beer. Burgers n’ Beer is a cross of Donny Burger (GMO x Larry F8) and Rootbeer BC2, bred by The Ranch. This plant was one of the top three plants I’ve grown in the last four years.
I popped a regular seed in a solo cup and transferred a small plant into a 5-gallon fabric pot. From seed to chop, I had zero problems with this grow. The plant grew symmetrically and vigorously throughout. During vegetation and flowering, I used Nectar for the Gods nutrient line, SLF-100, Fishshit, and Cultured Biologix no-brew microbial teas. I topped the plant late, but it didn’t matter. The long stretch during flower lasted almost four weeks. During the middle of vegetation, I performed Kyle Kushman’s supercropping and “chiropractic” techniques, including lollipopping the plant about a week before flipping to flower.
During flower, I grew under a BlackBird light sponsored by HLG. The plant outgrew all other plants and developed Hershey-Kiss-shaped buds early into flower. The large fan leaves were nine-fingers with a healthy dark-green hue and needed little pruning. While the buds darkened and fattened into long-pointy chunks, the leaves became dark purple. Throughout flower, the fade on the leaves hit all the fall colors. The stem rub provided a bitter kush and sharp paint aroma, and the buds delivered an earthy funk and garlic lacquer.
I chopped between day 66 and 67. Burgers n’ Beer yielded as much per plant as any I have grown. The plant was relatively easy to trim, which has become one of my top-of-the-list preferences for a plant. I trimmed the largest leaves and buds before placing them inside my Cool Cure to dry. After four days of drying in the Cool Cure, I placed the thick colas in Grove Bags and the rest of the buds inside a mason jar to cure for four weeks.
