News Joint Grow Journal 78: Rosetta Stone XX (Part 1)
Terpinolene is the easiest terpene flavor and aroma for me to recognize. When I popped a Rosetta Stone XX seed for this grown journal, that was the profile I expected. And that, along with beta-myrcene and beta-ocimene, was the profile I got.
Rosetta Stone XX is the all-female version of Rosetta Stone, bred by Brothers Grimm Seeds, and was rated “Top Ten of 2018” by High Times. The breeder pollinated his Jack Herer female with STS-induced Cinderella 99 female pollen. I popped the seed in a Solo cup and transferred a small plant into a 5-gallon fabric pot. During vegetation and flowering, I used Nectar for the Gods nutrient line, SLF-100, Fishshit, and Cultured Biologix no-brew microbial teas. Rosetta Stone XX was a vigorous grower during vegetation. I topped her, but the long branches still outgrew the other plants in the tent. During the mid-vegetation, I performed Kyle Kushman’s supercropping and “chiropractic” techniques, including lollipopping the plant about a week before flipping to flower. The stem rub provided notes of sweet musk and anise.
During flower, I grew the plant under a BlackBird light sponsored by HLG. Rosetta Stone XX stretched nearly four times its size. The white pistils flared in all directions as the buds formed. The buds grew bigger and into long-oval shapes. Though not super big, the buds grew too heavy for the branches, and I had to use bamboo sticks to support the plant. The stem rub in flower delivered sweet musk and anise as back notes with incense and lime-terpinolene up front.
I chopped between day 65 and 66. The plant produced more than my average yield, mainly because of the plant’s height. I trimmed the largest leaves and lightly trimmed the buds before placing them inside my Cool Cure to dry. After four days of drying in the Cool Cure, I placed the flower inside a mason jar to cure for four weeks. The aroma was a terpinolene-forward with back notes of jasmine incense sweet musk.
