Review: 9 Pound Hammer flower & Pink Lemonade 1:1 Capsules by SCCS
Collaborations or not, I try to review products for as many Illinois cannabis brands as possible. So I’m please to introduce Shelby County Community Services to our product review page. Not sure why I haven’t reviewed one of its products before now. I lived and worked in Shelbyville and wrote stories about the SCCS, which does more than cultivate and create medical cannabis products. So I decided to review two of SCCS products I enjoyed: 9 Pound Hammer flower and Pink Lemonade 1:1 capsules.
SCCS is a nonprofit organization that employs people facing disadvantages in the workplace. According to its website, “The purpose of Shelby County Community Services (SCCS) is to provide and promote mental health and rehabilitation programs for the residents of Shelby County, Illinois. Our…focus, capacity, and abilities have all expanded to strive for inclusion of all our underserved and disadvantaged neighbors in our community, regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, gender, national origin, financial means, developmental disability, mental disability or illness.”
9 Pound Hammer
I’d been looking for a strain to help me end my nights. So when NuEra Urbana listed 9 Pound Hammer from SCCS (by the breeder Jinxproof) for $48 an eighth, I knew of its parent strains had help me in the past. This 80/20 dominant indica, which totaled THC levels of 21.23%, was a cross between Jesus OG (Hells OG and Jack the Ripper) and Gooberry (Afgoo and Blueberry). The terpene profile was abundant in linalool, humulene, and caryophyllene.
The dense trichome covered buds were dark green and purple with rusty pistils flaring out. The aroma was not overwhelming but instead a sweet grape and light citrus from its Jack Ripper lineage and linalool. Deeper into the smell the humulene and caryophyllene added notes of wood and spice. The flavor followed with sweet tropical and grape notes on the front end of the inhale and spice and wood notes landing at the backend. The exhale started with a hint of lime then hit with the earthy pepper and wood flavors.
The appearance, aroma, and flavor were quality, but I picked up the strain for the specific purpose to help me wind down at the end of nights. And 9 Pound Hammer definitely did that. Quickly, a smooth euphoric and uplifted cerebral head high kicked in. Then the body relaxation slowly sank into my muscles. Once I had a complete body buzz, the cerebral high drifted into loose thoughts and drowsiness. After medicating, the fading buzz drifted me into sleep after each night. For an end-of-the-night strain, 9 Pound Hammer gave me the three characteristics I was looking for: a strong euphoric cerebral high that quickly faded in sedation, a heavy full-body relaxation that had me floating at times, and a quick entry into a relaxing night’s sleep.
Pink Lemonade 1:1 Capsules
SCCS specializes in medical products with CBD rich cannabis strains and have been serving medical patients for several years. So earlier in the year, I picked up Pink Lemonade 1:1 Capsules from Illinois Supply & Provisions Collinsville. Pink Lemonade is a sativa-dominant strain and the 9.95mg of THC pairs nicely with the 14.9mg of CBD in each capsule.
The CBD and THC capsules were perfect for when I wanted to relax muscles pain earlier in the day but still stay focused and productive. The cerebral buzz was clear headed and somewhat focused, while the body buzz allowed me to relax my muscles and still function physically throughout the day.
The Pink Lemonade 1:1 capsules was the product that catapulted me into trying several other 1:1 products and new ways to focus medicating specific muscle soreness during a specific times of the day. I definitely would have purchased more Pink Lemonade 1:1 capsules but haven’t seen them on a menu near me since.
