Review: Animal Face by Rythm
One of the simplest paths to a strong genetic library is simply choosing known cuts from respectable breeders. Rythm has tapped into this strategy with several strains. Recently, I spotted Animal Face, a strain bred by Seed Junky Genetics, on the menu at Rise Effingham, so I stopped in and picked up a sample.
Animal Face is an indica-leaning hybrid cross of Face Off OG and Animal Mints. This batch of flower tested at 1.46% THC, 30.83% THCa, and 32.29% total cannabinoids. The indicated terpenes were β-caryophyllene at 0.56%, limonene at 0.4%, linalool at 0.38%, βmyrcene at 0.34%, β-pinene at 0.05%, and α-pinene at 0.03%
This “mini buds” quarter ounce presented as a mix of small popcorn buds and flower pieces that carried a bright turf-green color throughout with small highlights of bright-fire orange hairs and a milky trichome frost. The trim was rough, leaving some scraggly bits of sugar leaf hanging close to the buds, but the small budlets still left a sticky feeling on my fingers after being handled.
The aroma inside the jar was a blend of bright fruit, gas, and dense funk that carried notes of overripe mango, lemon, sweet berries, hot diesel, skunk, and forest floor. The density lent itself to repeated exploration, providing new aromatic combinations with each pass. The flavor was just as varied as the scent with notes of berry and diesel dominating the top end of the profile and a blend of diesel, citrus, and skunk filling in the exhale.
The effect profile opened with a cerebral shift in awareness and strong euphoric sensations in my core. The heavy mental haze sapped my focus and energy and accompanied by the physical sensations, sidelined me from what I was doing and left me to recover on the couch.
After the intense peak, there was a long tail of indica heaviness that was best suited for the end of the day. I particularly enjoyed the flavor and aroma on this batch of flower, and I look forward to sampling this in other formats. For more Illinois News Joint reviews, visit here.
