Review: Big Chillz #1 by The Botanist
Cannabis remediation is a topic of hot debate among the industry that will only build as consumers become more educated. One of the best ways to get in front of the debate is simply proclaiming that your product hasn’t gone through remediation, as The Botanist has done for its new flower launch in Illinois. I recently picked up a few strains from the lineup including Big Chillz #1.
Big Chillz #1 is an indica-leaning hybrid cross of Big MAC and Chillz, originally bred by Capulator. This batch of flower tested at 0.67% THC, 25.23% THCa, and 26.27% total cannabinoids. The indicated terpenes were β-caryophyllene at 0.69%, limonene at 0.39%, and linalool at 0.19%.

This Big Chillz eighth consisted of five lightly trimmed, Christmas-tree shaped flowers carrying a mix of bright-lime green and purple-base tones and a milky trichome frost that brightened the entire bud. Bag appeal was high even with smaller popcorn sized flowers. The flower was dry to the touch but provided a hashy greasiness after being ground.
Inside the jar a complex blend of diesel, earthy mushroom, lime, fresh thyme, rosemary and menthol created a unique tangy herbal aroma. Despite the dry touch, these flowers burned smoothly, providing the palate with an even clearer picture of the bud than the aroma. Heavy notes of cream, diesel, thyme, rosemary, and mint created a dense flavor profile that hit the palate all at once then disappeared quickly.
Big Chillz was slow to build, reaching the peak of the experience a full 15 minutes post bowl. Most of the experience focused on the physical aspect, an initial tingling sensation at my crown that developed into a full-body relaxation that relieved aches and pains I wasn’t aware I was carrying. Mentally, Big Chillz provided a clearheaded openness that contrasted the heavy physical effects and kept me present, grounded, and focused throughout.
