Review: High Dose Sodas by CQ
When I first tried CQ infused soda more than a year ago, my only wish was for a higher dosed option than the basic 10mg. Well, CQ heard my plea and returned with a high dose 100mg option in three different flavors. I recently picked up to review all three: Cola, Ginger Ale, and Dr. Quencher.
CQ Cola, Ginger Ale, and Dr. Quencher came as 12-ounce cans of soda with 100mg of THC per can. The sodas came in a standard pop top can. All three poured with a light carbonation, and the respective colors one would expect, a rich chestnut brown in the Cola and Dr. Quencher and a very light amber tone in the Ginger Ale. There was a distinct hazy cloudiness that remained with the sodas even after they had settled.
The flavors were as recognizable as the colors but sweeter than their non-infused counterparts. The Cola only had a light bite but could have passed for a store brand cola easily. The Dr. Quencher had more variety with notes of vanilla and cherry but still carried a sugary sweet center note. The sweetness was distracting from the flavor in the Ginger Ale with only hints of crisp ginger appearing on the palate before a dense sugar tone muscled out the rest of the profile. At room temperature all three flavors carried a medicinal bitterness at the finish, but this completely disappeared once the drinks were chilled.
The sodas were fast acting, inducing an allover floating sensation and an irreverent, playful mood within 15 minutes. My focus waned as a haziness took over my awareness window, and I became “spaced out” and detached from the situation at hand. After the peak, a strong case of the munchies set in and left me overeating. The physical floating sensation was longer lasting than the mental shift and helped to tamp down my chronic muscle pain for almost two hours.
