While many infused beverage producers look to seltzers as a base, they’ve created a market opportunity in Illinois by leaving out the infused soda. Contract Canna and CQ are seizing that opportunity with the label’s new line of infused sodas starting with classic flavors, such as Cola. I recently picked up a sample to see what the new drinks were like.

CQ Infused Cola is a 12oz-canned soda infused with 10mg of THC per can. The ingredients are carbonated water, sugar, natural flavor, caramel color, phosphoric acid, sodium benzoate (preservative, EDTA, cannabis extract, and caffeine.

The soda poured exactly as expected with a deep brown color, a frothy beige carbonation head, and a lively fizz. The cola was sugar forward, landing somewhere between Coke and Pepsi in bite and could have easily been grocery brand cola anywhere. The sweet and strong cola flavor masked any cannabis flavors completely, making for a soda that could have passed as uninfused.

10mg is a starter dose but the liquid consistency made for a faster delivery and a stronger effect. The mental effects hit me first as a playful mindset and anxiety relief set in. I was relaxed, but the low dose of caffeine helped to keep my energy levels steady. I remained playful and relaxed for a solid hour post soda.

Some inflammation and pain relief hit my joints, but overall the physical presence was very light. The spot-on flavor and relaxing effect profile left me looking forward to more flavors from the CQ soda line. For more Illinois News Joint reviews, visit here.
