Review: Ice Cream Cake by Rythm
I love a strain with a reputation. While cultivators can rely on solid genetics with a known strain, they’re also choosing to directly compete with other cultivators growing the same thing. Ice Cream Cake is certainly a strain with a reputation, so when I spotted an eighth from Rythm at the RISE Effingham, I knew I wanted to try their offering.
Ice Cream Cake is an indica leaning hybrid cross of Gelato #33 and Wedding Cake. This batch of flower tested at 28.31% THCa and 30.1% total cannabinoids. Top terpenes included limonene, β-caryophyllene, β-pinene, α-pinene, and β-caryophyllene.

This eighth came as a handful of dense popcorn-sized flowers with a bright, light green color and significant trichrome frost. The trim hid the underlying frost until some sugar leaves were removed.
The aroma from the jar was dense and creamy with sweet cake dough, caramel, fresh mint, pine forest, and hints of black pepper. When smoked, the classic Ice Cream Cake creaminess was the star with hints of fresh mint and black pepper on the finish. The smoke and flavor from these buds were exceptionally dense.
The effect profile from Rythm’s Ice Cream Cake opened physically with a heavy body buzz that started at my crown. As the experience built, I was left with a classic indica “warm blanket” feeling enveloping me.
Mentally, Ice Cream Cake has always left me profoundly relaxed to the point of being dazed, and this batch was no exception. Ice Cream Cake worked well for me as a relaxing break after work or as a nightcap. For more Illinois News Joint reviews, visit here.
