Review: Infused Flavor Crystals by MixMix
One of the fastest growing segments in cannabis is the infused water-soluble powder category. The technology enabling these products has progressed so quickly that I’ve reviewed more infused powders in the last six months than I had in the previous three years. MixMix is one of the newest labels to enter the market. I recently picked up four flavors to review: Warm Vanilla, Spicy Ginger, Tart Citrus, and Pink Sea Salt.
All four flavors of MixMix come as 10-packs of 2mg, 5mg, or 10mg THC sachets. I reviewed the 10mg Warm Vanilla, Spicy Ginger, and Tart Citrus, and the 2mg Pink Sea Salt. All three 10mg options came as a standard-sized drink mix, while the 2mg Pink Sea Salt achieved the dosage reduction by simply including less powder, a literal “pinch.” All the powder was essentially identical outside the package, a superfine white dust that whipped into the air when poured like Kool Aid from the packet. Very fast to dissolve, a light mix completely dissolved a packet into food or drinks.
The flavors were straightforward and simple making for a long list of possible uses. The Warm Vanilla added a sugary-sweet top note followed by a creamy-vanilla finish. The single sachet added a well-balanced creamer style sweetness to a cup of coffee but would have worked well in tea, ice cream, or even baked goods. The Spicy Ginger was similar, providing a top-end note of sugar, followed by a clean, tangy ginger note with some lingering spiciness. Tart Citrus will be the most familiar to drink mix users, adding a strong kick of orange peel without a heavy sweetness, similar to EmergenC or weak Orange Kool-Aid. Pink Sea Salt was the most flexible of the four, adding a light saltiness to whatever it was sprinkled on and easily incorporating into almost any dish. Notably, there was no cannabis flavor or bitterness to any of the flavors.
The fast-acting extract set in within ten minutes, reaching a peak by the half-hour mark. Initially, a wave of tingling euphoria was paired with a floating sensation in my arms and legs. As time passed the diffused into an allover muscle relaxation. Overall, the effect profile was more “head” than “body” as my mood shifted positively and my perception window widened, pulling me into the moment and tamping down intrusive and distracting thoughts. The effects were consistent across the flavors and worked quickly to provide a combustion-style buzz that fit any time of day.
