Review: Infused GMO Preroll by Kaviar
Kaviar was one of the first labels to push the infused preroll category to Illinois shelves. I’ve sampled several of its infused prerolls and recently picked up the Kaviar’s GMO Rootbeer to review.
The Kaviar Infused Preroll comes as a 1.5g preroll infused with kief and oil. GMO Rootbeer is a hybrid cross of GMO and Rootbeer. This preroll tested at 17.2% THCa, 35.12% THC, and 53.3% total cannabinoids.

One king-size cone, complete with RAW branded filter, came with a Kaviar-branded glass tip holding the crutch. The extra kief and oil infusion wasn’t visible from the outset but was revealed when I unrolled the end of the joint and looked down the barrel at a blend of finely chopped forest green bud and small flecks of dark brown FECO-style oil. The larger size of this cone helped to keep the burn, even while the heavy oil content slowed the burn rate as it was smoking, providing an ever-thickening oil ring on the way down.
Terpinolene was the star of this aroma with notes of candied and burnt orange peel, fresh mustard, hot peppers, pine tar, and hints of floral perfume being revealed by a few dry pulls. This sharp profile carried over into the first half of the smoke as the same notes of candied and burnt orange, mustard, and pine came through clearly but a heavier, hashier flavor of skunk, rosemary, and floral perfume became stronger as the preroll burned down. The infused smoke coated the tongue and clung to the palate even after the joint was done, especially the dense hash note.
Heavier than expected, pressure mounted on my crown and brow before I had even finished the joint. By the time the peak hit, this pressure had transformed into an allover-floating sensation combined with pulses of euphoric tingling that seemed to come and go randomly. Mentally, my reactions slowed, and my focus waned as a haziness overtook my awareness and my train of thought. This heavyweight joint was best fit for a tag team of two or more smokers.
