Review: Jet Fuel by 93 Boyz
By @medsforheads
Chicago rapper, activist, and now cannabis entrepreneur Vic Mensa has been rolling out his brand 93 Boyz throughout the summer. Created with the tagline “Never run out of gas,” 93 Boyz is a partnership between Aerīz and Mensa’s nonprofit Save Money Save Life, a portion of revenue from which benefits the Books Before Bars initiative to improve book access to incarcerated people in Illinois and Texas. One of the first strains of flower released under the new brand was Jet Fuel, a cross of Aspen OG and High Country Diesel.
The yellow mylar contained nine small, narrow, electric-green buds glittering with outcroppings of trichomes. A few bald spots were visible and the texture of the inflorescence was quite dry, but at 29.48% cannabinoids, there was enough resin to go around. Jet Fuel’s primary terpene profile was made up of b-caryophyllene, limonene, b-myrcene, and a-humulene, contributing to a mildly herbal diesel scent.

Though a small graphic in the corner of the bag indicates the flower was “hand-trimmed,” the holes in the buds as well as their somewhat gnarly shape (a genetic characteristic of Jet Fuel in my experience, to be fair) would have had me guessing otherwise.
I rolled the three smallest nugs into a pinky-sized joint and hit the bricks with my tank, AKA paper, full of gas. The smoke had a savory nuttiness on the front end with a touch of spice in back, leaving a spacious corridor for notes of acidic gas to fumigate.
The presence of fuel, however, was underwhelming, perhaps due to the fact that Jet Fuel is a hybrid (rimshot). Mainly, I tasted clean, grassy OG during that session and further ones with this eighth.

Soon after smoking, I found my thoughts speeding up as an alert, task-oriented buzz set in. While not particularly euphoric, Jet Fuel’s high provided a boost of motivation and focus perfect for making light work of chores and keeping on track with my obligations. I tried listening to some Vic Mensa tracks on my second go-around, and they actually seemed mismatched to my headspace, the chilled-out vocals contrasting with my amped-up state.
I recommend Jet Fuel as a Work Sativa for busy professionals and those fighting fatigue, as it offered a helping hand to get things done that would have else been left for tomorrow. For more Illinois News Joint reviews, visit here.
