Review: Johnny Apple Seed by The Botanist
When I review a new batch of releases, I’m usually met with a flood of follow-up recommendations from readers for strains from the same collection. After I reviewed The Botanist’s new Strawberry Bubbles and Bloom Ztrawberriez, I immediately started hearing about the labels Johnny Apple Seed, so I recently stopped by Nature’s Care Co. in Rolling Meadows and picked up a sample to review.
Johnny Apple Seed is a hybrid cross of Cereal Milk and Apple Fritter, originally bred by Elev8. This batch of flower tested at 0.52% THC, 21.19% THCa, and 22.05% total cannabinoids. The primary terpenes were limonene at 0.62%, β-caryophyllene at 0.33%, and ocimene at 0.28%

This picturesque half ounce came as eight thumb-sized cola tops with an almost black base color hiding beneath frosty trichome heavy creases, where sugar leaves had been and thick rust colored hairs that had dried into the body of the buds. Light in the hand but dense to the touch, these buds bounced back slowly from a pinch, leaving a light stickiness at the fingertips.
The top of the aromatic profile was a sweet blend of ripe apple, plum, apricot and heavy cream, followed by spicy gas, pine, and freshly turned soil supporting the finish. The spicy gas and apple became a funky top note with the cream and pine adding even more complexity to the finish. There was stickiness to the flavor, and I could taste the funk and pine for a long time after smoking.
Johnny Apple Seed was slow to unfold, hitting my mental space first with an irreverent headspace and a mood boost that helped me put a positive spin on just about anything. The physical side was much heavier, providing a weighted pressure that relaxed my muscles and melted away inflammation and pain.
True to the hybrid nature of the strain, my energy levels remained unchanged throughout the experience, and combined with the mood boost, this made Johnny Apple Seed a great anytime strain. For more Illinois News Joint reviews, visit here.
